Units of Study




Beyond our Circle Time, we also incorporate many other elements into our Units of Study.  The week's art projects, cooking projects, toys, outside play, etc will all be utilized to expand upon our weekly theme.  For example, while we study birds we may:

bulletGo on a bird-watching adventure
bulletFlap our wings like birds on our way to Circle Time
bulletMake a pine-cone bird feeder
bulletComplete a bird puzzle
bulletTaste fruit and nuts that birds like to eat


A typical year's Units of Study would be:

January - A New Year, Martin Luther King Jr., Solar System, Chinese New Year

February - Health and Nutrition, Valentine's Day, President's Week, Colors

March - My Body, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Passover, Spring

April - Earth Week, Transportation, Insects, Community Helpers

May - Cinco de Mayo and May Day, Mother's Day, Rain Forest, In the Garden, Farm

June - Dinosaurs, Father's Day, Graduation, Summer, Ocean

July - Fourth of July Week, Birds, Camping, Pets

August - Travel the World, Wild Animals, Circus, Reptiles

September - Back to School, All About Me, Making Friends, Safety

October - Five Senses, Fire Prevention, Autumn, Halloween

November - Bears, Friends and Family, Music, Thanksgiving

December - Winter, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas
